Modern Day Slavery Policy

This statement is made pursuant to Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and sets out the steps that The Plastic Centre has taken, and continues to take, to ensure that modern slavery and human trafficking are not taking place within our business or supply chains.

Modern slavery encompasses slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, and human trafficking. The Plastic Centre has a zero-tolerance approach to any form of modern slavery. We are committed to acting ethically, with integrity and transparency in all business relationships, and to implementing effective systems and controls to safeguard against any form of modern slavery within our business or supply chain.

Our Business

The Plastic Centre is a UK-based supplier of building plastics and related products, operating trade counters and distribution facilities across England and Wales. Our supply chain includes UK and overseas manufacturers, distributors, and logistics providers.

Our Policies

We operate a number of internal policies to ensure that we conduct business in an ethical and transparent manner. These include:

Anti-Slavery Policy

This policy sets out our approach to modern slavery and explains how employees can identify concerns and report them safely.

Recruitment and Employment Procedures

We operate robust recruitment procedures, including right-to-work checks for all employees, to ensure that all staff are legally entitled to work in the UK and are not subjected to forced labour or exploitation.

Whistleblowing Procedure

Employees are encouraged to report concerns relating to modern slavery or unethical behaviour confidentially and without fear of retaliation.

Our Supply Chain and Suppliers

The Plastic Centre operates a procurement procedure and maintains an Approved Supplier List. We conduct due diligence on suppliers prior to approval and expect all suppliers to operate in compliance with applicable laws, including the Modern Slavery Act 2015.

We require suppliers to confirm that:

  • They have taken appropriate steps to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking within their own business.
  • They hold their own suppliers and subcontractors to similar standards.
  • They are willing to provide further information or evidence if requested.

Where appropriate, we reserve the right to review, audit, or terminate relationships with suppliers who fail to meet these expectations.

Risk Assessment

While the risk of modern slavery within our direct operations is considered low, we recognise that supply chains, particularly those involving manufacturing and logistics, may present higher risks. We remain vigilant and take proportionate steps to assess and mitigate these risks.

Training and Awareness

We provide regular briefings and guidance to relevant management and staff to ensure they understand:

  • The risks of modern slavery
  • The signs to look out for
  • How to raise concerns

Our policies are made available to all employees to ensure awareness and compliance.

Monitoring and Effectiveness

We assess the effectiveness of our approach by:

  • Monitoring for any reports or concerns raised by employees, suppliers, customers, or authorities.
  • Maintaining open communication with employees to ensure understanding of, and compliance with, our expectations.
  • Reviewing supplier compliance as part of our ongoing procurement processes.

Responsibility and Review

Overall responsibility for this policy sits with the Directors of The Plastic Centre. This statement and related policies are reviewed annually, or sooner if significant changes to the business or supply chain occur.
