Using a dark board well

Dark grey does most of its work on one wall rather than four. A graphite shower end with a lighter board on the returns gives depth without closing the room in, and the darker surface hides shampoo splash and drying marks that show clearly on white.

Matt over gloss

On a dark board, gloss reflects every downlight and shows fingerprints. Matt and textured stone finishes are more forgiving and read as a considered finish rather than a shiny one. If the room has limited natural light, plan the lighting before committing to dark on more than one wall.

Sizes and trims

250mm, 400mm and 1000mm widths at 2.4m and 2.6m. Chrome or black trims suit a dark wall — white draws a bright line down every corner.
