Choosing Wall Cladding Trims
Frequently Asked Questions
Internal corner trims where two walls meet, external corner or angle trims round an outside corner, edge or end trims where the run stops at a door, window or open wall, H-section joiners to butt two panels mid-wall, and quadrant where panels meet a bath or shower tray. Coving closes the top against the ceiling.
Most trims are fixed to the wall or batten first, then the panel edge slots into the channel as you work along. Some, like H-section, go in between boards as you reach them. Cut to length with a fine-tooth saw or a sharp knife. In a wet area, run silicone inside the channel before the panel goes in.
Trims come in white, chrome, silver, black and other finishes rather than matching every board pattern exactly. White and chrome sit quietly against almost any panel and are the usual choice. A contrasting trim is worth considering where you want the edge to read as a deliberate line rather than disappear.
Run the wall boards up to the opening and close the cut edge with an edge or end trim, then line the reveal itself with cut pieces if you want it panelled through. Silicone the junction where the trim meets the frame. The trim is what stops water tracking behind the board at a shower window.
A grab or panel adhesive, run in vertical beads about 300mm apart on the back of the board, then pressed firmly to a clean, dry wall. On battens you can pin or staple instead. Avoid solvent-based adhesives — they attack PVC. Clear silicone goes in the groove separately for wet areas.
